As the headquarters for surfing’s peak governing body Surfing WA, the proposed new facility takes full advantage of its prime location.

The grassy knoll located 250m from the ocean allow for the promotion of Surfing WA, an appropriate location for the administration of the sport and an ideal location for the core business of the surf school

The buildings form supports the need for a robust durable facility in this unique coastal location.
The grey concrete elements of the building speak to the pragmatic/utilitarian components of storage and garaging of vehicles. The west elevation is clad in an armature of more precious material of pre-patinated copper presenting Surfing WA Headquarters to the multi-use path and the ocean beyond.

The copper cladding material against the grey of the precast concrete element is empathetic to the coastal heath. The entry to the building is facing north and shielded from the prevailing south westerly breezes.

The new Surfing WA headquarters is especially close to our hearts here at Bateman, with founding director Norm Bateman being an avid surfer himself and former president of Surfing WA.

A project that we are extremely proud of and excited to see become the home of the WA surfing community.
